Scott Styris makes bold prediction on Ben Stokes’ future in Chennai team

Ben Stokes, the English allrounder, made a cut to the Chennai franchise’s squad for a whopping bid for INR 16.25 crore. The fans, on the other hand, went crazy over the same as they believed that getting the Three Lions Test skipper would be a difficult task. However, the Chennai team managed to surprise the fans and it remains to be seen if Stokes’ buy would pay off for the team.

As things stand, the former New Zealand allrounder, Scott Styris, opened up on the buy and said that the English star might as well lead the Chennai franchise in the near future. Notably, it is reported that it might be MS Dhoni’s last appearance in the Indian T20 League and claimed that the batter might call it a time from all formats of the game post the conclusion of the tournament.

“I think so, I think he will be captain. We have seen MS Dhoni try and pass the captaincy on, he has not been playing cricket regularly in between the Indian T20 League. It’s just an opportunity for MS Dhoni to pass the baton. I think yes, they will do it straight away. Ben Stokes will be captain,” Styris was quoted as saying.

Would Ben Stokes pay off for Chennai franchise?

As things stand, the Chennai team would be hoping that their investment in the veteran allrounder would pay off, given that it is highly likely that he would be given the task the lead the team in the near future. Known for his ability to finish games, Stokes would be considered the perfect replacement for the former Indian cricketer Dhoni.

Stokes, on the other hand, would look to give it his all for the franchise and given that he had already played alongside Dhoni for Pune in 2017, the southpaw would look to make an impact and carry on with his stint in the future as well. It is highly likely that the franchise might be looking at the player as a long-term investment and the Dhoni-led think tank would hope to retain the player in the squad from now on.
