Heinrich Klaasen’s heroics lead Seattle Orcas to victory against MI New York in a nail-biting finish in MLC 2023
The inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) has begun on July 13. It is worth noting that the tournament’s summit clash is scheduled to be held on July 30. The tournament comprises a total of 19 T20 matches that will be played throughout the course of the competition. The tournament has now entered its business end and every game has now become important for the six teams who are going head-to-head for the coveted title.
The match number 15, which was being played against the table topper Seattle Orcas and MI New York ended up in a thrilling contest between bat and bowl. The match certainly was expected to be a fascinating contest and it certainly delivered the same to fans who were kept on the edge of their seat. The South Africa wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen certainly provided the fans with some batting masterclass with a brilliant 110 not out of just 44 balls with nine boundaries and seven sixes. This is also the first century of the inaugural MLC seasons.
Another incident that caught the eyes of the fans was a humongous six from West Indies legend, Kieron Pollard. Pollard hit a monstrous 110-meter-long six which is certainly the longest six in the MLC tournament so far. The legendary hard-hitting batter soared it into stands off the bowling of Cameron Gannon.
Seattle Orcas beat MI New York by two wickets
On the back of an unbeaten knock of 110 runs off just 44 balls certainly helped the Orcas to a thrilling two-wicket victory over the fourth-placed MI New York side. The Seattle Orcas won the toss and elected to field first. The MI New York scored 194/8 in their allocated 20 overs on the back of great fiery innings from Nicolas Pooran who went on to score 68 runs off just 34 balls with the help of three fours and seven sixes.
In reply to this mammoth score, Seattle Orcas had an iffy start as they lost two wickets in side their first six wickets. But eventually, the innings from Nauman Anwar (51) and Klaasen helped MI New York to win the match with four balls in hand. With this win, Seattle Orcas are number one on the points table.
