‘He’s going to enjoy tender coconut and Caribbean beaches’ – Fans react as Ajit Agarkar set to travel to West Indies for discussing ODI World Cup road-map
Ajit Agarkar, the recently appointed chairman of selectors for Indian Cricket Borad, is apparently preparing to travel to the West Indies to have a conversation with skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to discuss matters related to the squad for the World Cup in addition to fitness concerns. Only two months remain for India to appear in a World Cup on home soil, yet there is some uncertainty concerning squad and fitness issues along the way. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah, among others, are right now making complete recoveries from grave injuries.
Agarkar is expected to have a chance to settle down and come up with an in-depth plan for India’s strategy for the forthcoming ODI World Cup, as it seems that he hasn’t had the chance to interact with team management in person after being appointed as chairman of the selection committee.
In addition to dealing with managing workloads and fitness worries, the team management and selection committee need to be in agreement across the key 20 players that they plan to select for the upcoming World Cup. The transition approach will also be addressed by the chairman of selectors and the team’s management.
A Final call on Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness status and his willingness to make it to Ireland for the three-match T20 series are anticipated to be the subject of extensive discussion. The world’s best fast bowler hasn’t appeared since a T20I series against Australia at home last year. Furthermore, Bumrah did not compete in the last Asia Cup or the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Bumrah’s comeback on the tour is expected; however, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have still not recovered. Both batters are currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and are doubtful to make an appearance in the Asia Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, according to reports, Rahul Dravid has taken time off due to the brief gap between the Caribbean and Ireland tours, and VVS Laxman will take over as interim head coach for the Ireland tour.
