“He’s still learning all the time……..’ – Mickey Arthur backs Pakistan captain Babar Azam

The Pakistan cricket team has been knocked out of the ODI World Cup 2023 after their side suffered a 93-run loss over the defending champions in their do-or-die clash. Notably, England posted a massive total of 337/9 in the given 50 overs. However, during the chase, Babar Azam and Co. could only manage to get 244 runs before getting all out, shattering the hopes of their side reaching the semis.

However, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur was spotted defending Pakistan captain Babar Azam after their team got knocked out of the marquee event. The former South African batsman feels the 29-year-old skipper is a very fine batsman and is currently in the learning stage. In addition, Arthur was also defending the Pakistan team after they got knocked out for their heavy loss in their last league game.

“He’s still learning all the time. We know he’s a very, very fine batsman. He learns every day with his captaincy. He’s growing and we have to allow him the time to grow. And to do that, you (have to allow him to) make mistakes. It’s not a crime to make mistakes as long as you learn from those mistakes and as a group, we’ve made a lot of mistakes this World Cup but if this group grows and learns from it, we’ve got the core of a very, very good side,” Mickey Arthur said.

We’ve got to create a stable environment: Mickey Arthur

Moreover, the former right-handed batsman reiterated that they do not pay attention to outside noises and focus on maintaining a stable environment in the team. The 55-year-old cricketer reveals that they will try to make their player ignore the outside noises.

“There’s always outside noise, whatever World Cup you are at there’s outside noise. The key for us as leaders within that group is to make sure that we make the players deaf to that outside noise. As I say, for us as a group and us as a team, particularly for us as leaders, we’ve got to create a stable environment,” he added further.
