‘I am ready’ – Ajay Jadeja responds to question about prospects of coaching Pakistan Cricket Team

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been phenomenal throughout his career. His amazing performances have made headlines, as have his off-field meetings. However, years after his cricketing days, Jadeja made a comeback on the field during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

He assumed the role of mentor for the Afghanistan Cricket Team and led them to their best-ever performance in the World Cup. Weeks after the completion of the prestigious tournament, Jadeja is back for his commentary duties. However, in a recent interview with Sports, Tak Jadeja gave a blistering response to a question related to his coaching career.

After being asked about his prospects of coaching the Pakistan Cricket Team, Ajay Jadeja said, “I am ready. I shared my learnings with Afghans, and I believe Pakistan was once like Afghanistan. You could say anything you wanted to in the face of your teammate.” It’s worth noting that under his mentorship, Afghanistan beat defending champions England, Pakistan (1992), 1996 champions Sri Lanka (1996), and the Netherlands.

What’s next for the Pakistan Cricket Team?

Afghanistan secured memorable victories against England and Pakistan in the ODI World Cup held in India. Led by Hasmatullah Shahidi, the team notched four wins in nine matches during the tournament. Despite their commendable performance, Pakistan managed to finish higher than Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023 standings, securing a position above them.

Following the World Cup disappointment, premier batter Babar Azam opted to step down as captain. Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi took over the leadership roles for the Test and T20I sides, respectively. Shan Masood leads the Test side in Australia, while pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi assumes the role of captain for the T20Is. In a bid to rejuvenate the team’s performance after the World Cup challenges, Pakistan has appointed former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez as the team director.
