Indian Cricket Board reveals 15-member squad for ODI World Cup 2023
The Indian Cricket Board reveals the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup on Tuesday. The marquee event is all set to take place on October 5 in the host country, India. Notably, Rohit Sharma’s side will be looking to win the upcoming major tournament as the host after winning it in 2011 under the captaincy of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni.
The ODI World Cup squad is almost identical to the Asia Cup squad. Rohit Sharma will open the inning with young batter Shubman Gill. Following him, India stalwart Virat Kohli will bat at number three. Notably, the squad has marked the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav as middle-order batters, whereas Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul have been included as wicketkeeper batters. In addition, the side has no place for RR skipper Sanju Samson or Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma this time.
India bank on two of their most potent all-rounders for the ODI World Cup
In addition, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel have been grabbed up for their places as all-rounders. Team India has included Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, and Shardul Thakur as the pacers, whereas Kuldeep Yadav is the spinner, along with Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja as the other two spinners. Notably, the great pacer Prasidh Krishna did not get a place, along with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Meanwhile, Team India has been heading to the Super Fours of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 and will be aiming to win the tournament, which will be a major boost ahead of the ODI World Cup. Following the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will be locking horns against Pat Cummins side for the three-match ODI series, which will mark a great preparation for the marquee event. Notably, Rohit Sharma’s side will start their ODI World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
