Indian Cricket Board unveils Adidas as new shirt sponsor in exciting collaboration
The Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah confirmed through a Tweet on Monday that the German sporting goods multinational Adidas has been signed as the new kit sponsor for the Indian Cricket team. It will replace Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd, maker of Killer Jeans, which came in as an interim sponsor after the MPL Sports pulled out of a deal midway.
Killer Jeans, which is the current sponsor of the Indian team will have its contract expired May 31 and Adidas will take charge after that. Before Killer Jeans, MPL was the sponsor of the Indian kit, whose contract was set to expire in 2023 but they wanted it to end earlier. For a three-year deal, MPL paid 6.5 lakh per match to the Indian Cricket Board and also paid 9 crore in royalties.
‘We are committed to growing the game of cricket…’ – Shah
“I’m pleased to announce Indian Cricket Board’s partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas,” Jay Shah tweeted on Monday.
Notably, the Indian Cricket Board is also looking for a new primary sponsor as there are reports that the current sponsor Byjus is also willing to end its contract with the Board before the deadline in November 2023. India are scheduled to host the upcoming ODI World Cup which is likely to begin from October 2023 and the Indian team can be seen donning the jersey with a new sponsor.
It is likely that the Indian players will be seen wearing a new jersey designed by the new kit sponsor Adidas in the upcoming Test Championship Final against Australia. The World’s number one Test team is all set to take on the Aussies for the second edition of the Test Championship that is scheduled to be played at the Oval in England from June 7th to June 11th.
The runners-up of the previous edition will be looking to end their wait for an international trophy after 10 years. Meanwhile, Australia will be looking to settle the score with Men in Blue after not being able to win a Test series against them in the previous four outings.
