Kolkata Knight Riders finally ended their four-match losing streak in IPL 2023 as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs in match number 36 of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Batting first, KKR posted a total of 200 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, RCB could only reach 179 runs losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

KKR had a great start as Jason Roy and Narayan Jagadeesan put up a partnership of 83 runs for the first wicket in 9.2 overs. Jagadeesan got out after scoring 27 off 29, hitting four boundaries. A couple of deliveries later, Roy also lost his wicket as the score was reduced to 88 for 2 after 10 overs.

After that, skipper Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer took the innings further by adding 80 runs for the third wicket. Iyer got out after scoring 31 runs off 26 balls, hitting three boundaries, while Rana smashed 48 runs off just 21 balls with three fours and four sixes before getting out in the second balls of the 18th over of the innings. Andre Russell couldn’t go big as he was bowled by Mohammed Siraj after scoring just 1 run.

After that, Rinku Singh (18 off 10) and David Weise (12 off 3) added the finishing touches to the innings as KKR reached 200 runs. For RCB, Wanindu Hasaranga and Vijay Kumar took 2 wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj put 1 in his bag.

RCB lost momentum after losing Kohli’s wicket

Chasing the massive total, RCB were looking to have a flying start as the skipper Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 31 runs for the first wicket in 2.2 overs. Du Plessis, however, got out after scoring 17 off 7. RCB went on to lose a couple of wickets in the next few overs. After that, Kohli and Mahipal Lamror took the innings further by putting up a partnership of 55 runs for the fourth wicket.

Lamror got out after scoring 34 runs off 18 deliveries with one four and three sixes, while Kohli went on to score his fifth half-century of the season before getting out on the first ball of the 13th over. Kohli got out after scoring 54 runs off 37 balls with six boundaries. After that, RCB went on to lose wickets at regular intervals and eventually fell short of 21 runs from KKR’s total. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy scalped 3 wickets, conceding 27 runs in his four overs, while Suyash Sharma and Andre Russell shared 2 wickets each.
