IPL 2023: Three records that were registered during the MI vs GT game
Facing the Gujarat Titans (GT), the Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav scored a superb century. At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 12, his innings of 103* helped MI to a big total of 218 runs.
With just 103 runs on the scorecard as their response, GT surrendered eight of its wickets. However, Rashid Khan’s incredible 79* off 32 balls trimmed the winning advantage in half as MI claimed their seventh win of the year by a score of 27 runs. A lot of records were broken yesterday and some players registered records alongside some of the greats of the game.
Take a look at the three records that were registered during the MI vs GT game: –
1) Four-fer and a fifty in a losing cause
Earlier in the start of the innings, Rashid claimed four wickets to pass Yuzvendra Chahal of the Rajasthan Royals on the list of this season’s Purple Cap. Rashid has 23 wickets to his name this season.
Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans recorded the highest score by a No. 8 batsman in Indian Premier League history with a quickfire, unbeaten 32-ball 79. The Titans were left floundering at 100 for seven as Rohit Sharma’s bowlers continued to make inroads at regular intervals. Rashid’s swashbuckling innings, which featured three fours and 10 sixes, prevented Gujarat from suffering a defeat that could have been disastrous.
He joined Yuvraj Singh and Mitchell Marsh in an unwanted list of doing the double which includes a fifty and a four-fer but it came in a losing cause. Yuvraj Singh is the only person in IPL history to have achieved this feat twice in the history of the IPL.
