‘Ishant Sharma: Jalwa hai hamara yaha’ – Fans in shock as DC pull off thrilling win against GT in low-scoring contest

At the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans are facing Delhi Capitals in the 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2023. David Warner elected to bat first after winning the toss, which was unusual on this track.

The Titans got off to a flying start with the ball thanks to Mohammed Shami’s superb bowling. The pacer bowled his whole four-over quota in his opening spell. He was on fire and got the ball rolling with the wicket of Philip Salt on the first ball of the innings.

Following David Warner’s unfortunate run-out in the second over, Shami continued his assault with the ball. He dismissed Rille Rossow in the third over with an excellent delivery, and his movement also resulted in the wickets of Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg in the fifth over. He ended up with the numbers 4-0-11-4.

Aman Khan (51 runs in 44 balls) then brought the Capitals back into the contest. He scored a brilliant half-century in a pressure situation as Axar Patel (27 runs in 30 balls) and Ripel Patel (23 runs in 13 balls) helped him well. DC managed to score 130/8 in the first innings. Apart from Shami, Mohit Sharma also took two wickets, while Rashid Khan bagged one.

The chase did not start for the defending champions as they lost Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill, and Vijay Shankar within the powerplay. They managed only 31 runs in the powerplay. GT also lost David Miller after that, but Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar stabilized the innings.

DC hold the nerves to keep GT at bay

The two combined for 62 runs, but they were too slow, and DC had complete control of the game. After Manohar (26) lost his wicket in the 18th over, Rahul Tewatia played a cameo to set up the game for a thriller. He hit three back-to-back sixes in the 19th over to bring the equation down to 12 runs in the last over.

Warner handed the ball to Ishant Sharma to do the job, and he nailed the last over. He kept things tight and took the wicket of Tewatia (20). In the end, he conceded just 6 runs in the over to take his team home. DC beat GT by a narrow margin of 5 runs to register their third win of the IPL 2023.
