‘It is a government issue’ – Roger Binny’s bold claim as PCB pushes for resumption of IND-PAK bilateral series

Pakistan and India are all set to lock horns on September 10 for the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Notably, Pakistan was the official host of the tournament, but the Indian team refused to travel to Pakistan due to geopolitical tensions between both countries. Following this step, PCB also refused to send their team to India for the ODI World Cup, but later they allowed the Babar Azam-led side to play in India.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board has invited Indian Cricket Board officials, namely President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah, to travel to Pakistan to witness some matches of the Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, Indian Cricket Board President Roger Binny heaps praise on Pakistan for treating them well in the neighboring country. The former India cricketer revealed that their main agenda for travelling to Pakistan was to witness matches and discuss a few things with the PCB.

“We had a very good meeting in Pakistan. We received very good hospitality. They took care of us very well. The main agenda was to watch cricket and to sit and discuss things with them. Overall, it was a very good trip. Pakistan treated us very well, they went out of the way to make us comfortable,” Roger Binny told PTI after their arrival.

Notably, the 1983 World Cup-winning member was asked about the bilateral series between both countries, about which he says his board cannot take a decision. In addition, the 68-year-old cricketer also added that bilateral series may happen as the Babar Azam side is all set to travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

“Indian Cricket Board can’t say. It is a government issue, and they will have to take a call. We need to wait and see. And hopefully, it will happen because the (ODI) World Cup is coming up, Pakistan team will be in India to play,” he added further.
