‘It’s a big stage and kind of a platform where you…’ – Meg Lanning talks about WPL ahead of season 2 opener

The Delhi Capitals skipper, Meg Lanning, has recently opened up about the impact of WPL 2024 in one of her recent interviews. Notably, Delhi Capitals ended up being the first runner-up in WPL 2023, and they are all set to lock horns against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening clash of WPL 2024, which is slated to take place on February 23 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore.

However, Meg Lanning feels that the WPL tournament will get bigger and bigger over time. In addition, the top-order batter feels that it is a great opportunity for the Indian local girls to show their talent in the tournament to get a place in the national squad. The opening batter has witnessed some classic improvements in Indian players going into the WPL league.

“I think it’s only going to get bigger with every year. It’s a big stage and kind of a platform where you want to perform well. There’s a lot of eyes on you. For the Indian locals in particular, it really gives them an opportunity to put their names up and perform well and see where it goes from there. I’ve seen some really significant improvement in the local Indian players from what I’ve seen so far, and I think the WPL has played a big role in that,” Meg Lanning said in a press conference ahead of the WPL 2024 opener.

I think the depth within the squad has improved now: Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning also talks about her Delhi Capitals camp. Moreover, the 31-year-old cricketer feels that it only depends on whether the players step up at the right time to make sure the side wins the game regardless of the circumstances.

“I think the depth within the squad has improved now. Every team has got the Indian players and the internationals but I think where it’s actually critical for every team is having the depth and those players who can come in and win the odd game for you when perhaps the stars won’t fire, which happens occasionally,” she added further.
