In the final of the U19 World Cup 2024, India and Australia locked horns. The Men In Blue were the defending champions and won all of their games coming into the summit clash. On the other hand, the Aussies also didn’t lose a single game coming into the final. Also, the last time they won the U19 World Cup was back in 2010, the team was led by Mitchell Marsh.

Meanwhile, in this game, the Yellow Brigade won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost the wicket of Sam Konstas (0) early as his struggle against the incoming ball continued. At 16/1, the likes of Harry Dixon and Hugh Weibgen put together 78 runs. Naman Tiwari, who had a poor start to his spell, came back and removed Weibgen. Dixon followed soon after and the team was reduced to 99/3.

At this point, Ryan Hicks and Harjas Singh, who was woefully out of form, added 66 runs for the fourth wicket with the latter scoring a valiant fifty. Even though the team went from 165/3 to 187/6, the team managed to get 253/7 on the board. For the now former champions, Raj Limbani took three wickets while Naman Tiwari took two. On the other hand, Saumy Pandey and Musheer Khan took one each.

Australia successfully defended the target and clinched the title after 14 years

The last time Australia won the U19 World Cup, they were led by current Australia senior team all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh. In the final against Pakistan, the Kangaroos won the final. Since then, they played two finals, both against India (2012 and 2018), and lost both of them. This time around, the Aussies managed to beat India in the final and clinched the title for the first time after 2010. With this, they have managed to win four titles, compared to India’s five.

In reply to Australia’s 253/7, the former champions never got going and lost eight wickets for 122 runs. Even though Murugan Abhishek (42) showed some resistance, it was too little too late and the team was bowled out for 174, losing the game by 79 runs.
