Jasprit Bumrah denies rumours after copying Marcus Rashford’s celebration against Afghanistan in ODI World Cup 2023

India defeated Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 match. Jasprit Bumrah has been in sensational form since his return from injury. Afghanistan chose to bat first after winning the toss. Bumrah after picking up the wicket of the Afghan opener Ibrahim Zadran was seen doing a unique celebration by placing a finger to the side of his head.

The celebration is the trademark of the English forward Marcus Rashford after he scores a goal. Bumrah was seen imitating him after the pacer picked up the wicket as Zadran was completely undone with the ball and he was caught behind with KL Rahul taking a catch diving onto his right side. The pacer has been in brilliant form as he won the Man of the Series in Ireland series and led the attack in the Asia Cup as well. His celebration video was viral on social media. Zadran was dismissed for a 28-ball 22 off the fourth ball of the seventh over.

After the wicket of Zadran, they found it difficult as they lost wickets and were reduced to 63/3. Bumrah was asked about the celebration in the post-match conference and dismissed the hype over the celebration and the comparison with Rashford.

Nothing like that. I just felt like it, so I did it: Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah said, “Nothing like that. I just felt like it, so I did it.” The 29-year-old was also asked for his views on fans losing interest in 50-overs game he replied saying, “That depends on the interest because maybe the longer game is sometimes difficult for people to watch and keep a tab on.”

“But at the end of the day, I come from a generation which loves cricket. I watched Test Match and that was my favorite format. So, I probably would not be able to relate to that because I love watching the game. I love watching the longest format of the game. So yeah, probably you’ll have to ask a person who’s a little younger than me.”
