‘Jazball still on’ – Fans applaud Yashasvi Jaiswal for reaching his 2nd Test century in style vs England
Young Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored his Test century against England in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The 22-year-old reached the mark in 150 balls with a huge six against Tom Hartley. It was followed by a huge celebration as the fans stood up and applauded a great knock.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first with both teams making changes. Injuries to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja meant that they missed this game. Rajat Patidar was given his first Test cap while Kuldeep Yadav was drafted into the team. Mukesh Kumar came in for Mohammed Siraj who had bowled just 11 overs during the Hyderabad Test.
Jack Leach’s injury meant that there was a debut for young spinner Shoaib Bashir. Pace bowler Mark Wood was replaced by veteran seamer James Anderson. The 41-year-old started the game just 10 shy of reaching 700 Test wickets.
Yashasvi Jaiswal leads India’s charge with the bat
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat. Barring one over which saw Joe Root hit for two fours, the Indian batters were watchful.

Just before lunch, Shreyas Iyer joined Jaiswal as the young opener got his fifty with a huge six. India ended the first session at 103/2 but once the game resumed the runs began to come quickly.
With three fours in a single over off Tom Hartley, young opener Jaiswal raced from 73 to 85. Batting on 94, Jaiswal came down the track and got to his century with a huge six. There was relief on his face as he celebrated wildly.
India’s dressing room stood up in unison and appreciated the knock played by the young batter. The 90-run stand for the third wicket was broken by Tom Hartley when he dismissed Iyer for 27. Ben Foakes took a smart low catch to give England the much-needed wicket with 40 minutes left for tea.
