Jofra Archer on course for sensational ODI World Cup 2023 return

Jofra Archer on course for sensational ODI World Cup 2023 return

English star pacer Jofra Archer will likely be fit enough to take part in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Notably, the Jos Butler-led England side will look to defend their title in the forthcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be staged in India in October and November. Moreover, the right-arm pacer’s selection will undoubtedly boost England’s pace attack, as the 28-year-old cricketer was an integral part of their World Cup victory campaign in 2019.

According to reports, the great seamer’s Sussex coach, Farbrace, affirmed that Archer is all set for the upcoming World Cup, calling this fantastic news for English fans. “He is going well. I think he is on course for the World Cup, which is fantastic news,” his coach Farbrace told BBC, as quoted by NDTV Sports.

Notably, the English bowler was recently seen with Mumbai Indians. However, smaller niggles and injuries prevented him from playing more than five games for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the IPL, in which he took just two wickets at an economy rate of 9.5, was not looking great at the time, and unfortunately could not contribute much for his franchise.

Players would turn down huge amounts of money: McCullum

In the same vein, former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum, who is the current coach of the English Test team, affirmed that players should stay away from leagues and their lucrative money to entirely focus on international cricket.

“In the end, the game is going in a different direction. The last few years, there’s been a shifting of the sand somewhat around international cricket. We’d be completely naive to think that players would turn down huge amounts of money on long-term contracts for a lot less work in these T20 leagues because they should be playing international cricket,” McCullum said on SEN Radio.

It is quite notable that the Barbados-born cricketer has not taken part in a Test match since after 2021. England was keen to use him primarily in white-ball contests. In addition, the star player had scalped 42 wickets from just 21 matches in the ODIs, including one 5-wicket haul in his career so far.
