‘We were just thinking basically about the game..’ – Josh Hazlewood opens up on his 10th-wicket stand with Cameron Green in 1st Test vs New Zealand

Australia’s star cricketer Josh Hazlewood has recently opened up about his partnership with star all-rounder Cameron Green in the first innings of the first Test match against New Zealand on March 1 at Basin Reserve Stadium in Wellington. Notably, the star duo stitched 116 runs in the stand, which was the fourth-highest wicket stand for Australia in Test history.

However, Josh Hazlewood revealed that he had to work much harder to bat for the tenth wicket in the game. The 33-year-old cricketer reveals that he got the scoring option to add runs on the board, which propelled him to score. In addition to this, the right-arm pacer also spoke about bowling shots, which helped him score runs in the game.

“I think sometimes you can work too much on it and try and be a batsman, and look like a batsman. I just don’t think that’s when the tail’s at its most potent. Everyone’s got to have their scoring options and obviously keep the good ball out when it’s at the stumps and have an option for the short ball, but it’s as simple as that I think. It’s just having a couple of options to score,” Josh Hazlewood said after the end of Day 2.

Josh Hazlewood also reveals the conversation with Cameron Green in the middle of the overs. Moreover, the great seamer revealed that Cameron Green had targeted certain bowlers in the game to take them down. Furthermore, the South Wales-born cricketer feels that they suddenly got 50 runs and then 100 runs of partnership by keeping plans extremely simple against New Zealand.

“We were just thinking basically about the game. Where we were at and working out the four or five balls an over that Greeny was taking, and then he could target down breeze and a certain bowler. It’s all those little things you talk through, and then all of a sudden we’re 50 partnership, then 100 and geez, we’re up near 400 so things just tick along when you’re batting,” he added further.
