‘Jyaada ho raha hai’ – Fans divided as Delhi host first game with Rishabh Pant in attendance for Indian T20 League 2023

Star Indian batter Rishabh Pant has been out of action from the cricket field fir a while as he is recovering from multiple injuries that he sustained from a horrific accident that took place last year. He would most likely miss the entirety of 2023 due to the injuries, and India would most certainly miss him dearly in the 50-over World Cup, which will be hosted in India later in the year.

Pant’s accident occurred on December 30, 2022, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, after he reportedly fell asleep, consequently ramming into the median on the highway for a distance at a high speed. The news of the star batter being on the receiving end of an unfortunate car crash rocked the entire nation in the morning, and the sight of the 25-year-old with a bloodied face is something that sunk the hearts of one and all.

Ever since the car crash, Pant has been giving updates on his recovery from his social media handles by posting images and sending messages. He was also last seen appearing in a Zomato advertisement for a contest called Zomato Premier League, with the advent of the Indian T20 League 2023.

Can Delhi turn it around against defending champions?

With Delhi hosting their first home game of the Indian T20 League season, Pant will be in attendance for the game against defending champions Gujarat at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. This will be the first time he will return to the venue after the accident. In absence of Delhi’s regular captain, David Warner has taken the skipper duties for the franchise.

In their first game, Delhi had a forgettable game against Lucknow at Ekana Sports City, losing the game by 50 runs. Lucknow batted first and amassed a challenging total of 193, courtesy of a blistering knock of 73 off 58 by opener Kyle Mayers. Warner’s men, in reply, simply surrendered meekly as none of the batters barring Warner and Rilee Rossouw made a sizeable contribution. Warner scored 56 off 48 and Rossouw scored 30 off 20, and Delhi gathered only 143 for nine wickets in 20 overs. Delhi will come hard at Gujarat in their second fixture and make amends for the setback in the first game.
