Fans react as Kane Williamson gets ruled out from New Zealand’s second match of ODI World Cup 2023
The New Zealand cricket team is all set to lock horns against the Netherlands on October 9 in their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will take place at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Notably, skipper Kane Williamson has again been ruled out of the second game. According to reports, the top-order batter is set to take his place in the clash against Bangladesh on October 13.
Notably, the opening batter has been out of the game as he suffered injuries in the first game of the IPL 2023. Following that, the great right-handed batter played the ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up game against Pakistan on September 29, where he struck a brilliant half-century. Meanwhile, New Zealand white-ball coach Gary Stead has recently provided fresh updates on his injury.
“Kane’s been progressing very well. I think the fielding is still the element for him that he’s just got to get a little bit higher, and he gets a little bit more trust in his body,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.
We are pretty confident that Kane Williamson will be playing the third match for us: Gary Stead
The 51-year-old coach says that their side is confident enough to allow the stylish right-handed batter to play against Bangladesh in their third game of the marquee event. The Christchurch-born cricketer also stated that they are looking for him for the Netherlands clash as well, but one may definitely watch the Kiwi star in their next clash.
“We are pretty confident that he will be playing the third match for us. We’ve got another training to get through today, so we’ll finalize the team (for the match against the Netherlands) once we’ve got through that training. But at this stage with Kane, we are looking like the third game is when he will start the tournament,” he added further.
Meanwhile, star batter Rachin Ravindra got the nod in his absence in their first game, and he didn’t disappoint, giving his side a thrilling start.
