‘Kya baat kahi hain’- Fans react as Yuzvendra Chahal opens up about recent snubs from Indian Team

Yuzvendra Chahal has recently struggled to break into the Indian playing XI. Despite being a part of the majority of India’s white-ball team, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have only managed to get into the team a few times. While there has been much discussion about Chahal’s non-selection in key matches, the wrist-spinner seems unconcerned about his lack of playing time.

Team India has developed as one of the most powerful teams in cricket, owing in part to the abundance of talent in the country. Cricket legend Brian Lara accepted the truth when speaking with swashbuckling openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan during the just-ended ODI series.

When asked about the frequent snubs, Chahal gave reporters a firm response, suggesting cricket is a team game, unlike chess. Chahal did not play in any of the three ODIs against the West Indies, but he did receive a chance in the first T20I. The veteran spinner expressed his delight at being able to wear the Indian shirt, whether as a member of the playing XI or one of the 15 members of the squad chosen for the tour.

I’m happy that I get a chance to wear the Blue Jersey: Yuzvendra Chahal

The leg-spinner stated, “I’m happy that I get a chance to wear the Blue Jersey and I’m not at home but traveling with the team. It is not an individual game, I’ve played chess, which is an individual game. This is a team game and when 15 players walk together, out of which 11 plays and we win matches.”

“I’ve not been playing in the last two-three series. Previously you would have seen me playing in England or West Indies and Kuldeep (Yadav) was not playing then. We need to look at the team combination, you’re playing against whom and where are you playing. If tomorrow there is a turning wicket here then you can also field three spinners in the XI.”

He further said about the captains he played under, “I see it like a family which has four brothers first was Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni, then came Virat and Rohit, and after that, Hardik came. So the equation is the same and there is no change. On the ground, everybody wants to win and Hardik gives us freedom which we were getting earlier, you can set the field according to yourself. If the plan doesn’t work then he gives his input. Things are similar, a freedom bowler wants they are getting it.”
