‘Kya karenge iska..’ – Fans react to Australia’s horror fielding show during ODI World Cup 2023 Vs South Africa
The Australian cricket team had a day to forget in the field in Lucknow versus South Africa. This was the second game for both the sides during their ODI World Cup 2023 Tournament. South Africa came into the game after having beaten Sri Lanka in their opening contest in New Delhi.
The five-time ODI World Cup winners Australia on the other hand had lost to India in Chennai. Mitchell Marsh had dropped Virat Kohli early in his innings and that changed the course of the game. On Thursday it was yet another shocking performance as Australia dropped six catches.
Temba Bavuma’s South African side was asked to bat first after Pat Cummins won the toss. Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee was dropped for the game in favor of Tabraiz Shamsi. Marcus Stoinis was fit again and he replaced Cameron Green. Alex Carey missed out of the playing XI making way for Josh Inglis.
Australia’s horror fielding display continues –
South Africa and Australia are known for their amazing fielding and have produced some amazing fielders. On Thursday it was shocking beyond belief to see the men in yellow drop seven catches in a single game.
The shambolic display saw Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis drop catches in a space of three deliveries in the 49th over. Marco Jansen’s catch was fumbled and later dropped by Starc. David Miller mistimed a slower ball only to see Marcus Stoinis settle under it and make a meal out of it.
Batting first South Africa powered their way to 311 for 7 from their 50 overs. Quinton De Kock led the charge with his 19th ODI ton for his nation. This was also the second century in a row for the 30-year-old. De Kock scored 109 runs from just 106 balls with 5 massive sixes and eight fours in his knock.
Aiden Markram then scored 56 runs which came off just 44 balls with the help of 7 fours and a six. Each of the South African batters made decent contributions with the bat to help their team post the massive total. Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell picked two wickets each while Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa picked a wicket each for the team.
