‘Kyuki vo wicket isne le thi’ – Fans react as Ravindra Jadeja says turning point of game was wicket of Steve Smith in India’s opening game of ODI World Cup 2023

The Men in Blue had a stellar start to the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign as they registered a magnificent win against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. Notably, great all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja yet again showed his solid form, which reduced Pat Cummins and Co. to just 199 runs. The star spinner dismissed Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey during the game.

However, the CSK star has opened up about his favourite wicket against Australia. The slow left-arm orthodox spinner feels that the wicket of star batter Steve Smith was a turning point for India. Notably, Steve Smith’s greatest knock came in the WTC final, which made India lose the championship. In addition, the 34-year-old admitted that his experience playing in Chennai for CSK over the past 10–12 years helped him adapt well to the conditions.

“I think that was the turning moment, you know when you get a wicket like Steve Smith. From there onwards it was not easy to just come in and rotate the strike for the new batter. So I would say that wicket was the turning point. And yeah, it helped me, because I knew the conditions in Chennai. I’ve been playing here for like 10-11 years, so I know the conditions on this ground,” Ravindra Jadeja said.

I think nobody was too hyper or panicked at that time: Ravindra Jadeja

Meanwhile, the left-handed batter has also opened up about the situation when India was reduced to 2/3. The great all-rounder says that all sitting in the dressing room got a little panic, but they had confidence in Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who can chase it down to the total.

“When you’re three wickets down in just a couple of overs, you obviously panic a little bit. But we know Virat and Rahul, they’ve been doing it for the team for so many years. So, I think nobody was too hyper or panicked at that time. But yeah, luckily, they played brilliantly, they know the conditions well,” he added further.
