‘Make Sarfu bhaiya captain as well’ – Fans rejoice as Sarfaraz Ahmed makes Test comeback after 4 years
Pakistan and New Zealand are facing off in the first Test that kicked off on December 26, Monday and much to the delight of the Pakistani fans, Sarfaraz Ahmed, the veteran wicketkeeper was included in the squad, with Mohammed Rizwan getting dropped from the playing XI. The wicketkeeper was dropped right away, post Shahid Afridi was appointed as the interim chief selector for the series against the Kiwis.
As far as the first session of Day 1 is concerned, it was Pakistan who won the toss and elected to bat first, with many arguing that it was the best decision, given that the Kiwi pacers could be vulnerable going into the day. However, on contrary, the opener Abdullah Shafique and middle-order batter Shan Masood made their way back to the dressing room for 7 and 3 runs respectively.
Could Pakistan come out of labyrinth?
Babar Azam and his men competed against the Ben Stokes-led Three Lions and lost the series 0-3, much to the dreariness of the Pakistani fans. For the unversed, Sarfaraz’s last Test came against South Africa in January 2019, making this return, one of the most deserved comebacks of his life.
To add more to Sarfaraz’s comeback, it was the first-ever Test match at home for the talented right-handed batter. The fans speculated that the newly selected interim selection committee by the new chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi would make aggressive changes to the squad.
As one could expect, the veteran wicketkeeper was brought into the squad right away and it remained to be seen if he could make the opportunity count. It is a crucial Test match for the Pakistani team given that they are in the race to turn things around post the humiliating whitewash against the English men.
If at all Pakistan manage to clinch the win, it would be scripted as one of the greatest comebacks in history, given that they are going through one of the worst phases of their life. As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Sarfaraz Ahmed’s selection:
