Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus creates history as he becomes first male cricketer to take seven wickets in T20I match

The 2023 edition of the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B has begun from July 26 and the final of the tournament will be played on August 1. Also, there will be a total of 5 teams that will be taking part in the tournament, namely China, Malaysia, Bhutan, Myanmar, and as well as Thailand. The tournament will be taking place in Malaysia, which also have had prior experience playing various international tournaments including U/19 World Cup in 2008.

The first game of the tournament saw China locking horns with the host Malaysia. The match ended up in a one-sided affair as the Chinese side was bundled out for a mere score of just 23 runs, which the Malaysian team chased down easily in just 4.5 overs with eight wickets to spare. One incident which caught the eyes of all the cricketing fans was a hostile bowling spell from Syazrul Idrus who went on to create history.

Idrus had a terrific outing with the ball as he ended up picking seven wickets in the four overs that he bowled giving away just eight runs. The thirty-two-year-old bowled 20 dot balls in the process. The right-arm medium fast bowler from Malaysia also went on to become the first man to grab seven wickets in T20 history.

Idrus Slams down record

Idrus showed some superb bowling skills as he consistently swung the ball which helped in him picking up all seven wickets being bowled. The Malaysian pacer put together a standout effort that produced a stunning figure of 4-1-8-7, which is not only the best in all of T20 cricket but in the process, he also broke the record of Colin Ackermann’s. In a Vitality Blast match back in 2019 between Leicestershire and Birmingham Bears, Ackermann registered a figure of 7 for 18 against Birmingham Bears.

As far as T20 Internationals are concerned, Idrus broke the record of Peter Aho, who registered a figure of 6 for 5 against Sierra Leone in the year 2021. Apart from that, when full-member teams are concerned, Idrus overtook Deepak Chahar’s figure of 6 for 7 against Bangladesh in 2019.
