‘Mumbai Indians move forward…’ – MI head coach Mark Boucher brushes reports of rift within franchise after announcement of new skipper

The team Mumbai Indians have named Hardik Pandya as their new skipper ahead of IPL 2024. Notably, this move created a lot of dissatisfaction and controversy in the cricket community. However, there were reports of CSK approaching Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah after MI named the former GT skipper as their new leader.

However, Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher recently spoke about this to be a great move and shattered the rumours of CSK approaching or trading with Mumbai Indians players ahead of IPL 2024. The former South African cricketer reveals that the Mumbai Indians have decided to move forward, and Rohit Sharma was a great leader of their franchise from IPL 2013 to IPL 2023. However, the franchise has thought of moving forward, which led him to make Hardik Pandya the new skipper.

“It’s the game of cricket. Mumbai Indians are moving forward. Rohit has been fantastic for us. He’s been a stalwart for Mumbai Indians, he has done really well. This is just a decision that is made by us to move forward and get into a transition phase with the new captain and it’s, you know, take all the motions aside and all that type of stuff. That’s simply what it is all about,” Mumbai head coach Mark Boucher said.

Mark Boucher also shattered the news of other franchises approaching their players. Moreover, the 47-year-old coach says that he can truly understand the emotions of the fans and the reason why they are so attracted to MI, which led them to spread the false news on social media.

“I have heard rumours via social media, all that type of stuff, but I’m not really into social media stuff. As far as I can say it was handled by us in the best way possible. We understand the emotions around everything, but this is purely a transitional phase for Mumbai Indians. And decisions were made by us to move forward and that’s where we are at the moment,” he added further.
