Former Australia skipper Meg Lanning announced her retirement from international cricket at the age of 31 on November 9. Notably, the batting legend has been known as one of the most successful captains for her side as she guided Australia to win four T20 World Cup titles, one ODI World Cup title, and the gold medal in Commonwealth games held last year in Birmingham.

The stylish right-handed batsman has revealed her emotions and how she felt after announcing her retirement. In addition, the top-order batsman revealed that it was very hard for her to make such a decision after playing 13 years of international cricket. The opening batsman felt proud of what she had achieved as a member and as the captain of the team, which she would cherish forever.

“The decision to step away from international cricket was a difficult one to make, but I feel now is the right time for me. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a 13-year international career, but I know now is the right time for me to move on to something new. Team success is why you play the game, I’m proud of what I have been able to achieve and will cherish the moments shared with teammates along the way,” Meg Lanning said in a statement.

I also want to say a huge thank you to all the fans: Meg Lanning

The 31-year-old cricketer has thanked her fans, teammates, family, and Cricket Australia, who have supported her to play the game at the highest level of the game. Moreover, the legendary cricketer has been retained by the Delhi Capitals, is expected to play the second season of the WPL, and is hoping to continue the domestic games as well.

“I’d like to thank my family, my teammates, Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association for their support to allow me to play the game I love at the highest level. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the fans who have supported me throughout my international career,” she added further.
