‘MI ke bowlers ne finally ek match jitwadiya’ – Fans react to a comprehensive win for MI over GT in IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians (MI) faced the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the defending champions GT came into the game as favourites. GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss at the Wankhede stadium and made the popular choice of bowling first. Rohit and Ishan Kishan gave the start that they needed to post a big total but all the limelight went toward one man, and that was Suryakumar Yadav. Fans gathered at Wankhede on another evening to witness Suryakumar Yadav’s yet another amazing knock. He reached the IPL hundred milestone, which had previously eluded him. 

Perhaps more significantly, he has increased MI’s total to 218. In the last three overs itself, Surya used all of his power to score 54 runs. As Surya brilliantly used the cut shot over the third for a six, sweeps over square leg, and powered stroked down the ground, the viewers witnessed everything. Don’t overlook Rashid Khan’s excellent performance today, which included a 4/30 on a difficult pitch. Don’t rule out GT just yet either because the Wankhede ground is known for generating thrilling, high-scoring games. 

Rashid Khan’s heroics gives Mumbai Indians late scare

GT had a horror start to their innings of this daunting Mumbai total as they were down by three wickets within four overs itself courtesy of two wickets from Akash Madhwal and one from Jason Behrandorff. Gujarat Titan’s troubles increased when they lost Vijay Shankar via a brilliant delivery from Piyush Chawla. 

The defending champions lost another one as Kumar Kartikeya dismissed Abhinav Manohar on the first delivery of his spell. Miller and Tewatia formed a small partnership but once Miller was removed by Madhwal, the chase started sinking more. Chawla and Kartikeya grabbed one more wicket each to put more salt into the wounds.  

Rashid Khan notched up an important fifty in just 21 balls to make sure that the Gujarat Titans’ Net run rate doesn’t get affected much. Even though the result was known to everyone, Rashid ensured the margin of defeat was reduced. Mumbai Indians, in the end won the game by 27 runs over Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Indian Premier League
