‘Mja aayega’ – Fans react as Dinesh Karthik set to don commentary hat for 2023 ODI World Cup

India’s star batter Dinesh Karthik has shocked the cricket fraternity with his unique tweet, which confirmed his participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup set to commence in host country India on October 5. Notably, the wicketkeeper batsman will be seen in the upcoming marquee event with a few days to go.

However, it is noteworthy that the RCB star batter will be donning the commentary hat in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Notably, this is not the first time he has played the role; the lower-order batter has previously done the same job in The Hundred, the WTC Final, and the recently concluded Ashes 2023, all held in England.

Meanwhile, the right-handed batter was last seen in action during the T20 World Cup 2022, held in Australia. The 38-year-old had performed magnificently in the IPL 2022, which marked his great comeback in Blue Jersey. Following that, the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer performed the role of finisher in several bilateral series.

However, his poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 makes him out of the team. In addition, the great cricketer did not perform well for RCB in 2023, which means that the franchise will release him ahead of the next IPL edition. Notably, Dinesh Karthik was the great wicket-keeping option for Team India in all three formats, but Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul cemented their place in that role after giving spectacular performances for their side.

You’ll see me in the World Cup for sure: Dinesh Karthik

However, Team India also had Sanju Samson as the other option for the wicketkeeping role, which suggests there is no place for an RCB batter in the squad. In addition, Rishabh Pant will also get the nod once he gets fully fit. The young cricketer is expected to make his comeback in 2024.

“You’ll see me in the World Cup for sure is what I can say,” Dinesh Karthik wrote on X.

India’s star cricketer, Dinesh Karthik, played in the 2019 ODI World Cup, held in England. However, this time he acknowledged the role of commentary for the first time in the ODI World Cup. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. will be locking horns against Australia on October 8 to commence their journey.
