‘Overall his form is not good……’ – Mohammad Kaif lashes out at Babar Azam despite Pakistan’s empathic victory in ODI World Cup 2023 clash vs Bangladesh

The Pakistan cricket team beat Bangladesh on October 31 and won their seventh game of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Eden Garden in Kolkata. Notably, Babar Azam and Co. have jumped to the fifth spot after an emphatic victory and are still in the race for the semi-final of the marquee event. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif wasn’t pleased with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam despite the great win.

The cricketer turned commentator feels Babar Azam should not play unnecessary shots in order to finish the games fast. In addition, the former batsman feels the 29-year-old skipper isn’t in great form during the marquee event, as he is only scoring fifties but not hammering centuries.

“I will not judge him based on this knock because he ran after the run rate. He had to finish the game early. So that big shot came. But overall his form is not good. He is scoring fifties and sixties but the hundred hasn’t come,” Mohammad Kaif said.

The dismissal shows that when Babar Azam changes gears, it is not his game: Mohammad Kaif

However, the 42-year-old cricketer believes that Babar Azam is unable to change the gear according to the situation. The legendary cricketer compared the Lahore-born cricketer to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in terms of skill set and strength.

“The dismissal shows that when he changes gears, it is not his game. When he tries to hit balls out of the boundary, he gets caught on the line. It is not his strength, he is a touch player. If you ask him to score runs at a fast pace after 60 balls, he probably does not have the ability that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have,” he added further.

Meanwhile, talking about the Men in Green campaign for the ODI World Cup 2023, they had a strong start as they thrashed the Netherlands and Sri Lanka in their first two matches, although they suffered four back-to-back losses against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa before getting the win over Bangladesh. Notably, despite the win, they still face a threat for the semi-final spot.
