Why has Naveen-ul-Haq been banned by ILT20 for 20 months? Know here!

Afghanistan cricketer Naveen-ul-Haq has been banned for 20 months from ILT20 League for breaching his player contract with the Sharjah Warriors. Notably, the LSG pacer “refused to sign the retention notice” for the tournament’s second season, which is scheduled to take place in January and February of next year.

Since the order essentially prevents Naveen from participating in the ILT20 in 2024 and 2025, he signed a contract with the Super Giants of the SA T20 League, which are owned by the same organization. The news was confirmed by IPT20 CEO David White on Monday. In addition, White reveals that earlier they went through the mediation process before taking the main step.

“Earlier this year, they sent him a retention notice on the same terms and conditions. Sharjah Warriors approached the ILT20 to intervene in this dispute. The ILT20 first initiated a mediation process through an independent third-party mediator, however the mediation failed,” ILT20 said in a statement.

The ILT CEO reveals that Naveen-Ul-Haq has failed to honour his obligations with the Sharjah Warriors, which led him to get a 20-month ban from the Dubai base cricket league. Moreover, disciplinary action was already taken against a 24-year-old cricketer.

“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party. Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honour his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors and the league had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him. The disciplinary proceedings against Naveen were conducted in a transparent manner and both parties involved were given opportunities to prepare and present their submissions,” ILT20 CEO Daivd White said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Naveen-Ul-Haq has been retained by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions, and he will be in action in the IPL 2024, to take place from March to May.
