‘Need a good day tomorrow’ – Fans react as India struggle on Day 2 of fourth Test against England

India got a good start on Day 2 of the fourth Test in Ranchi as Ollie Robinson scored 58 runs from 96 balls before getting dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. Later he dismissed Shoaib Bashir on duck and James Anderson for duck as England were all down at a score of 353 runs. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122 runs.

As India batters Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted down to chase a total of 353 runs. England pacer James Anderson gave the team the breakthrough as he got the wicket of India captain Rohit Sharma on 2 runs. Rohit Sharma edges the ball as Ben Foakes takes an easy catch. Both young stars of India Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill put on a strong partnership of 82 runs for the second wickets.

In the 20th over of the ongoing Test match spirit of the game was questioned as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s edge which was caught by Ben Foakes was celebrated like he had taken a wicket. While reviewing it revealed that the ball was touched on the ground before getting into his hands.

Shoaib Bashir excelled in bowling

Shoaib Bashir broke their partnership as he got Gill’s wicket. He scored 38 runs from 65 balls. Later he went on to dismiss Rajat Patidar. The in-form Ravindra Jadeja was removed again by Shoaib Bashir. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 73 runs from 117 balls before getting out to Bashir. He broke Virender Sehwag’s record of most Test sixes in a year.

Tom Hartley also joined the party as he got the wickets of Sarfaraz Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin. These two wickets helped him to surpass Jasprit Bumrah to become the highest wicket-taker in this series so far. Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav batted to save a collapse. Dhurv Jurel is on 30 runs while Kuldeep Yadav is on 17 runs as they both remain not out on Day 2. While Shoaib Bashir got 4 wickets.

India ended the Day 2 by scoring 219 runs with loss of 7 wickets. But they are still behind by 134 runs. England look to give an upper hand in the match after their crushing defeat by 434 runs in the third Test match in Rajkot.
