Neeraj Chopra offers valuable advice for Jasprit Bumrah to increase pace
Tokyo Olympics 2021 Gold Medalist, Neeraj Chopra has offered a piece of advice for Jasprit Bumrah, who has one of the most unusual actions in cricket. The latter stayed out of the game for a year from September 2022 to August 2023. Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, Bumrah made his comeback and did well with the team winning the tournament in some fashion. The right-arm pacer carried the same form in the ODI World Cup 2023 final in which the team played the final.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat player has been rested for the white-ball series in South Africa. He will play in the two-match Test series. Meanwhile, Chopra has said that Bumrah must lengthen his run-up to increase his pace (currently, the latter bowls between 140 to 145).
“I like Jasprit Bumrah, I find his action unique. I feel he should lengthen his run-up to add more pace,” said Chopra. He made the assessment based on interactions with other javelin throwers. “As a javelin thrower, we often discuss how bowlers can increase their pace if they start their run-up from a little further back. I like Bumrah’s style.”
Sometimes, it’s not just our day: Neeraj Chopra
Meanwhile, just like a lot of noted personalities, Chopra also attended the India vs Australia final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
“This was the first time I watched a match fully. When I was on the flight, India had lost three wickets already.
“Virat (Kohli) bhai and KL Rahul were batting when I reached. There are some technical things that I don’t understand.
“Batting in the daytime wasn’t very easy. In the evening, I think, batting became easy. But our guys tried. Sometimes, it’s just not our day. But, frankly, everyone had a great tournament.”
