‘They are just unstoppable yar’ – Fans react as New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023
The New Zealand team won their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh by 8 wickets on October 13 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Notably, the Black Caps had already defeated the defending champions, England, in the tournament opener on October 5, whereas they thrashed the Netherlands in their second clash. Following this emphatic win, the Kiwis continued their top spot in the points table.
Speaking about the game here, it was New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who had won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, they had an awful start as their great opener, Liton Das, was dismissed for the duck, whereas Tanzid Hasan could only pile up 16 runs. Following them, Mehidy Hasan and Shanto could only manage 30 and 7 runs, respectively.
Moreover, skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan scored 40 runs from 51 balls and stuck to the great stand with wicketkeeper batsman Rahim, who also scored 66 runs, which was the highest for his side. Notably, their partnership boosted the middle order in the game. Later, in the end, Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah’s stand helped them post 245/9 in the given 50 overs.

Notably, star cricketer Lockie Ferguson has taken three wickets, whereas left-arm pacer Trent Boult and Matt Henry get two wickets each. In addition, great all-rounders Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips also took one wicket each, which restricted Bangladesh’s low score.
However, while chasing, New Zealand star opener Rachin Ravindra got dismissed for just 9 runs, whereas CSK star batter Devon Conway scored 45 runs, respectively. Later, skipper Kane Williamson was retired hurt after playing the scintillating knock of 78 runs from 107 balls, featuring eight boundaries and a six that boosted their middle order. Later, Daryll Mitchell’s incredible knock helped them chase down the target. Notably, their side has maintained the top spot and a solid winning form in the marquee event.
