ODI World Cup 2023: Steve Smith doesn’t reveal anything to Shane Watson when quizzed about likely plans in finals vs India
The ODI World Cup 2023 final will witness India and Australia contending for the biggest prize in ODI cricket. Steve Smith was in conversation with former teammate Shane Watson after the semi-final win against South Africa on Thursday.
Australia beat South Africa by three wickets in a pulsating game on Thursday at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Pat Cummins held his nerve along with Mitchell Starc to their eighth ODI World Cup final appearance.
The Narendra Modi Stadium will witness a huge crowd as the biggest names are set to attend the game. Rohit Sharma and his team have won all ten games so far in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The Australians under Pat Cummins though will want to win the game and bring home their sixth ODI World Cup title.
Steve Smith refuses to divulge plans ahead of final versus India
Former Australian opener Shane Watson was seen speaking to Steve Smith after the win over South Africa in Kolkata. Shane Watson asked Steve Smith “How would Australia beat India in the final?. Many of the current members of the Australian side were Shane Watson’s teammates in the 2015 World Cup triumph.
Steve Smith responded to the question by saying “Good Question” and this was followed by a few seconds of utter silence. The Australian vice-captain then went on to praise India and the brand of cricket they have played so far.
The 34-year-old Australian batter said “They are playing really good cricket. I don’t think they have lost a game in this World Cup. They are playing well, they are going to be playing in front of 130,000 screaming fans. Yeah, it’s going to be a great atmosphere, I am looking forward to it”
South Africa batted first and scored 212 before being bowled out in the 50th over. David Miller scored 101 runs as he was supported by Heinrich Klaasen who scored 47 runs. Chasing 213 to win, Australia began well with David Warner and Travis Head scoring 60 runs in just six overs.
The South African spinners though came back to peg the Aussies back as they put a break into the scoring. Australia won the game when Pat Cummins hit the ball four to the boundary to book the final date with host nation India.
