Australia is set to take on the Afghan challenge on Tuesday in Mumbai in the 39th game of the ODI World Cup 2023.  It is an important game for both the sides keeping in mind the race for a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Pat Cummins and his Australian side are currently in third place with ten points from 7 games. Their last win was against England on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If Australia win on Tuesday they will become the third team to reach the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan are placed sixth in the table a win on Tuesday will take them directly into the 4th place in the table. Hasmatullah Shahidi and his team have won four games already during the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Winter hasn’t officially set in Mumbai as the city is still witnessing sizzling daytime temperatures. In each of the games played at the Wankhede Stadium, the team batting first won the game. South Africa scored 399 versus England beat them by 229 runs, and beat Bangladesh by 149 runs in the next game.

The Indian team had scored 357 runs in their game against Sri Lanka at the same venue and bundled out the opposition for 55 runs. The team that wins the toss will look to bat first and post a huge score on the board.

Australia also has a fiery bowling lineup with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. The top wicket-taker during the ODI World Cup 2023 is Adam Zampa with 19 wickets. The leg-spinner will enjoy bowling on the Mumbai surface as it offers a generous turn and bounce with the ball.

For the Afghanistan team, it is a huge chance to write their names in history books. If they beat Australia they will surpass Pakistan and New Zealand to be placed fourth in the points table.
