The five-time World Champions Australia are gearing up to win the title of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is all set to take place from October 5 in India. Notably, Pat Cummins’s side will be locking horns against India on October 8 in Chennai to commence their journey. However, ahead of the marquee event, star cricketer Travis Head sustained a grave injury, which is the biggest setback for the most successful team.

The left-handed batter sustained a fracture on his left hand while playing against South Africa. Notably, Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, revealed that the great middle-order batter will be out for some extended period of time as well as miss the first half of the World Cup. The former Australia cricketer also shared that the injuries were not serious and that the 29-year-old cricketer didn’t need surgery.

“The timeframe is still a bit loose at the moment but the good news is he doesn’t require surgery as it sits at the moment. There will be an extended period of time out and we’ve just got to weigh up whether that time (out) falls with an option to carry him through the front half of the World Cup,” Head coach Andrew McDonald said.

Moreover, the 42-year-old admits that they need to make the final 15 for the upcoming ODI World Cup and also denies giving the exact time of his return. “There’s no doubt he won’t be available for the front half, so that’s a decision we’ll have to make for the final 15. But I can’t give you an exact time frame,” he added further.

Meanwhile, Australia has lost the five-match ODI series against South Africa by 2-3. They will be locking horns against Rohit Sharma’s side for the three-match ODI series commencing on September 22 in the host nation.
