‘Pahle khud ko select karega’- Fans react as Mohammed Hafeez set to become Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief selector

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez is a front-runner to become the national team’s chief selector after the conclusion of the ongoing Sri Lanka tour. According to various reports Zaka Ashraf, the current chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Cricket Management Committee (CMC), favors Hafeez for the position of chief selector, which has been vacant since the previous CMC was dissolved in June.

According to the source, Ashraf has still to decide whether to replace Rasheed with a new head selector or to reshuffle the entire selection committee, which was constituted by Sethi in conjunction with Mickey Arthur. The new CMC, which has a four-month mandate, has already begun making changes to the board’s corporate structure and has been tasked with conducting new elections for all affiliated regional associations, revitalizing departmental teams, and forming a new board of governors who will elect a new chairman.

Zaka met with former captain: Source

The source told, “Zaka met with former captain, Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability for the job.” “Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector.”

The source further added, “It is unlikely the entire selection committee will be changed because of the heavy schedule of the Pakistan team after the Sri Lanka tour as Afghanistan have also confirmed an ODI series in Sri Lanka in August before the Asia Cup.” “Naveed Akram Cheema, who has remained manager in the past, is a strong candidate to become team manager soon in place of Rehan ul Haq.”

The Pakistan chairman has also chosen to make additional changes to the Pakistan team, such as hiring a new team manager and media manager for the Asia Cup and World Cup in India. It will be interesting to watch if the former Pakistan all-rounder becomes the chief selector or not.
