Pakistan appoint new captains after Babar Azam’s resignation

Pakistan appointed new captains for various formats, following the resignation of Babar Azam. It was a forceful decision from Pakistan, as they were left with no other option, but to appoint new captains in different formats. Babar resigned from his captaincy following the criticism of his decision-making in the ODI World Cup 2023. In the big tournament, Pakistan did not perform well. The blame went to Babar.

The Pakistani cricketer took to X and announced his resignation from leadership. “Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is the right time for this call. I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats,” wrote Babar on X. The talented batter thanked all the people who helped him in his leadership in Pakistan.

Babar also added that he would be open to giving suggestions to new captains who would be appointed. “I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication. I want to express my sincere thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility,” added Babar. The decision of Babar did not go well for the fans.

Pakistan appoint new captains and director of cricket

Following the decision of Babar, Pakistan appointed two different captains. The Asian side announced Shaheen Afridi as their captain in T20Is, In the shortest format of cricket, Afridi has been one of the best performers in the last 5 years. The left-arm pacer has been the best bowler in Pakistan since his debut. The decision to ask him to lead T20Is seems good, despite him being young.

In Tests, Pakistan announced Shan Masood as the captain. The talented batter has scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket in recent months. Along with him, Pakistan also appointed Mohammad Hafeez as the director of cricket operations. The new captains are set to lead Pakistan in the series against Australia, which is set to happen towards the end of the year.
