WATCH: Babar Azam receives heartwarming reception on return to Pakistan after ODI World Cup 2023 setback, fans click selfies at Airport
The Babar Azam-led Pakistan team has been retuned to Lahore after ending their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign in host country India. Notably, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was spotted at the airport while receiving the warm reception. The fans are spotted cheering him on and clicking selfies with him to motivate and encourage him after failing at the marquee event.
Notably, there was no backlash from the Pakistan fans for the Pakistan team, and the whole crowd was cheering for Babar Azam and calling him ‘King Babar.’ The security officials were doing their best to keep fans away from him. However, few fans had managed to get selfies with him at the airport. Notably, this was a wonderful and heartwarming gesture from the fans for their support.
Meanwhile, the Men in Green had a stellar start to the campaign as they beat the Netherlands and Sri Lanka in their opening clash. However, hosts India, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan have thrashed them brutally. Meanwhile, Pakistan gets the magnificent win over New Zealand, but the defending champions ended their journey ahead of the knockout games.
Will take positives and discuss our mistakes also: Babar Azam
Pakistan captain Babar Azam was totally disappointed after being knocked out of the showpiece event, despite the great start. The 29-year-old skipper accepted that they had failed in all three departments, which leaves them out of the tournament. Moreover, the stylish right-handed batter reveals that he will have a meeting with his team to discuss the flaws and mistakes that cost them the tournament.
“Yes, very disappointed with the performance. If we had won SA match, could’ve been a different story. But yes, have made mistakes in bowling, batting and fielding. We gave 20-30 runs extra. Bowled few loose deliveries. Our spinners haven’t taken wickets. That’s had a big effect. If spinners don’t take wickets in middle over, you struggle. We have to sit together. Let’s see. Will take positives and discuss our mistakes also. I will do the best to pitch in my experience,” Babar Azam said after the loss over England.
