‘Panauti lag gayi’ -Fans react as Virat Kohli takes to social media to heap praise on Shubman Gill for his maiden IPL ton against SRH

Star Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill continued his great form in IPL 2023 as he scored his maiden IPL hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match number 62 of the season on Monday. His innings helped GT to register a 34-run win over SRH and become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2023 Playoffs.

After the match, Gill got a special mention from his idol and the star Indian batter Virat Kohli who heaped praise on the 23-year-old for his splendid knock against SRH. Kohli took on his Instagram to appreciate. He put a story where he wrote, “There’s potential and then there’s Gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you @shubmangill.

Talking about the match, with the help of Gill’s century, GT posted a total of 188 runs for the loss of 9 wickets at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts didn’t had a great start as they lost Wriddhiman Saha for a duck in the very first over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. After that, Gill and Sai Sudharsan took charge of the innings by putting up a partnership of 147 runs for the second wicket.

Sudharsan got out after scoring 47 runs off 36 balls with six fours and a maximum. After his dismissal, Gill took the innings further with wickets falling regularly from the other end. He finally completed his hundred in the 19th over after facing 56 balls. He got out in the first ball of the 20th over after scoring 101 runs off 58 balls hitting 13 fours and a six.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 5-wicket haul went in vain

After that, GT lost momentum completely as they went on to lose 4 wickets by scoring just 2 runs in the final over of the innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar completed his five-wicket haul as he finished with the figures of 5/30 in his four overs and prevented GT to score a big total. Apart from him Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and T. Natarajan shared a wicket each.

However, GT bowlers also didn’t give a chance to the SRH batters to chase the winning total as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Heinrich Klaasen turned out to be a lone warrior for the Orange Army as he got out after scoring 64 runs off 44 balls with four fours and three sixes. At last. SRH were restricted at 154 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and become the team after Delhi Capitals to get knocked out of the playoffs race.
