‘He stand any chance of surviving……’ – PCB shows no mercy to Babar Azam after Pakistan’s back-to-back defeats in ODI World Cup 2023
The Pakistan cricket team is all set to lock horns against South Africa on October 27 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for their sixth game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Proteas are currently at the peak of their form and place themselves in the second spot. However, Babar Azam and Co. are currently in the fifth spot as they have registered three back-to-back losses against India, Australia, and Afghanistan in the marquee event.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board expressed disappointment after their three back-to-back defeats in the ongoing big tournament. In addition, the PCB revealed that skipper Babar Azam and newly appointed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were given full support and freedom to make the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Meanwhile, the PCB indirectly gave a hint that Babar Azam’s captaincy could get sacked if they failed to enter the semi-final of the marquee event.
“Captain Babar Azam and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were given freedom and support in forming the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Only if Pakistan can stage a miracle and win all their remaining matches to qualify for the semifinals of this World Cup does Babar Azam stand any chance of surviving as captain,” said PCB in a statement.
Fans will continue to support captain Babar Azam and the entire Pakistan cricket team: PCB
However, PCB has urged its fans to support the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The PCB is optimistic that the Men in Green will bounce back in their upcoming four matches and deliver their flabbergasting performances to emerge in the playoffs.
“In this challenging environment, the board administration hopes that the cricketing fraternity and fans will continue to support captain Babar Azam and the entire Pakistan cricket team. The national team still has four crucial matches remaining in the round-robin stage, and the PCB is optimistic that the team will regroup, and overcome the setbacks,” the statement added.
