PCB repeals Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf’s central contract for refusing to play in Australia Test tour

Fast bowler Haris Rauf’s central contract was terminated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday as a disciplinary measure following his withdrawal from the most recent Test series in Australia. Rauf decided to play for the Melbourne Stars instead of the Test series against Australia because the 13th Big Bash League (BBL) was underway at the same time.

The PCB statement said, “After a thorough hearing process conducted by a PCB committee and taking into consideration the views of all stakeholders involved in the matter, Haris’ central contract has been terminated from December 1, 2023, and no NOC (No objection certificate) to play any foreign league will be granted up to June 30, 2024.”

Wahab Riaz, the chief selector, was unhappy as the 30-year-old changed his mind on playing for the national team. As per Riaz, Pakistan cricket would suffer as a result of Haris Rauf’s withdrawal. Following a comprehensive hearing procedure, the PCB management granted the pacer a personal hearing on January 30, 2024, by specific natural justice norms. However, they weren’t convinced of his reasons and thus released him from the contract.

PCB declined Haris Rauf’s NOC for overseas leagues

Haris Rauf, Pakistan’s one of best pacers, has lost the freedom to play in overseas league matches. The 30-year-old will not be eligible to play in any international T20 competition until June 30, 2024, as a result of the PCB’s severe decision. The PCB views Rauf’s non-participation in the Test series as a breach of the central contract, since there has been no mention of an injury or any other acceptable excuse.

Moreover, the monthly wage, exclusive of match fees, allowances, and other qualifying extras, is approximately 4.6 million for players like Haris who have central contracts in category B. The three-match Test series between Australia and Pakistan took place from December 18, 2023, to January 7, 2024. Unfortunately, Australia defeated the Pakistan team in all three Test matches.
