‘Permanent hun Sir’ – Fans react as CSK qualify for IPL 2023 final after defeating GT in first qualifier by 15 runs
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed against each other in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, May 23. The four-time champions are now through to the final as they defeated GT by 15 runs, and this is the 10th in 14 seasons that CSK have qualified for finals in IPL history.
Talking about the match, GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. The CSK openers stitched yet another fifty-run partnership. While Ruturaj Gaikwad notched up a 36-ball fifty, Devon Conway was struggling at the other end. It was Mohit Sharma with his slower ball into the wicket who provided the first breakthrough in the 11th over. Shivam Dube departed after scoring just 1 run in an attempt to up the ante.
Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu hit one six each but they too fell trying to increase the scoring rate. However, Ravindra Jadeja’s cameo and Moeen Ali’s six in the final over ensured that CSK crossed 170. CSK skipper MS Dhoni came to the crease but was dismissed after scoring only 1 run. Mohammed Shami and Mohit picked up 2 wickets each while Darshan Nalkande, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad picked up 1 wicket each.
Brilliant bowling performance by CSK
Chasing the target, GT had a slow start and also lost two important wickets inside the mandatory powerplay. Gill was keeping one end safe but the other batters failed to produce anything special for the team. Gill also departed after a slow inning of 42 runs off 38 balls, which included 4 fours and 1 six and the equation was 88/5.
However, Rashid Khan tried to give a scare to the CSK crowd as once again he looked great with the bat to dispatch some loose bowling from Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande. But there was too much on his shoulders and he departed after scoring 30 runs off 16 deliveries. However, GT will have another chance in the second qualifier and they will definitely look to win the contest.
