‘Pratishtha Parampra Anushasan’ – Fans react as Bangalore lose their opening game to Delhi in Women’s T20 League

At the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi faced off in the second game of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).

With the strong roster that they have assembled, the Bangalore franchise was determined to win their first WTL game. Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bowl first.

However, her decision started to prove wrong as Lanning and Shafali Varma put together 162 runs for the first wicket. They did it in just 143 overs. When they were set to get a hundred, they were dismissed by Heather Knight in the 15th over. In the end, Jemimah Rodrigues and Marizanne Kapp finished the innings well and took the team to 223/2

Bangalore didn’t even come close to Delhi’s daunting total

After batting Bangalore out of the game, Delhi earned a convincing victory. Bangalore got off to a fast start thanks to Smriti and Devine, but they were eventually eliminated by Capsey because they were unable to keep up the required run rate of more than 11 runs per over.

Bangalore experienced a mini-collapse in the middle overs despite Perry’s efforts to keep the scoreboard moving. They lost five wickets in quick fashion, with Tara Norris being the main culprit. With the best partnership of the innings, Knight and Schutt put on a 50+ partnership to cut the deficit in half. But, Norris came back for her last over and got rid of Knight to get her fifth wicket.

Both teams will play again in the fourth league game of the Women’s Premier League’s inaugural season on March 6. Bangalore was shot down by Delhi today, while Harmanpreet Kaur and company defeated Gujarat Giants handily in their season opener. Bangalore needs to win against Mumbai to make sure they remain in the hunt for the playoffs. Also, they need to ensure their NRR improves in the upcoming games.
