‘I don’t understand what they mean’ – Prithvi Shaw comments on England’s Bazball approach in Test Cricket

England have been getting trolled for their Bazball approach in Test Cricket after getting trailed by 0-2 in the ongoing Ashes series against Australia. The hosts were trolled after the first Test in Birmingham where the skipper Ben Stokes declared first innings on 393 for 8. Eventually, England ended up losing the match by 2 wickets. Australia continued their momentum as they registered a 43-run win in the second Test at the historic Lords Cricket Ground. However, England made a comeback in the third Test at Headingley with a 3-wicket win to keep themselves alive in the series.

Young India batter Prithvi Shaw recently stated that he does not understand England’s Bazball approach in the longest format of the game. The 23-year-old said that people can come out with new names for the hard-hitting batting but that is just cricket. According to Shaw, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh is a proper Bazball cricketer.

I see the ball, hit the ball – Shaw

“I don’t understand what they mean when they say Bazball. I assume looking at Mitchell Marsh’s bat that he’s a proper Bazball cricketer. People will come out with new names. The way I play is that if I see the ball, I hit the ball. I don’t know what people will call that. Whether they call it baseball, hockey or whatever they want to call it, at the end of the day, woh apna cricket hai (that’s our sport – cricket),” Shaw told Cricbuzz.

Speaking further, Shaw expressed his disappointment with the Indian Team management on his exclusion from the squad. The Mumbai batter also highlighted that he didn’t receive proper communication from the team management regarding his exclusion from the team.

“When I was dropped [from the Indian team], I didn’t get to know the reason. Someone was saying it could be fitness. But of course, I came here [to Bengaluru] and cleared all the tests at the NCA, again scored runs and again came back to the T20 team. But again didn’t get a chance in the West Indies. I’m disappointed but you just have to move forward. I can’t do anything, I can’t fight with anyone,” Shaw said.
