‘Punjab: Ab underground hone ka samay aa gaya ha’ – Fans in awe of MI as they take their revenge from PBKS with convincing win

Punjab Kings hosted Mumbai Indians in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. The match was a run-scoring feast, with over 400 runs scored, but MI came out on top thanks to a magnificent batting display.

PBKS scored a massive total of 214/3 in 20 overs, riding on Liam Livingston’s incredible half-century and Jitesh Sharma’s unbeaten 27-ball 49. MI lost their groove after taking some early wickets, as Sharma and Livingston pounded them all over the park. Livingston hit seven boundaries and four sixes in his innings to score 82 runs off 42 balls. The two added 119 runs off 53 balls for the fourth wicket.

The five-time champs’ most expensive bowler proved to be Jofra Archer. In four overs, he gave up 56 runs. In addition to him, Arshad Khan gave 48 runs in four overs but also took a wicket. Piyush Chawla took two wickets and was the best bowler for the Mumbai Indians.

In the chase, captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the first over, unable to add anything to the scoreboard. After that, Cameron Green played a small innings of 23 runs in 18 balls but looked unsettled in the match. Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, delivered a magnificent knock as he was joined by Suryakumar Yadav.

The two only dealt in boundaries and completed their respective fifties. While Surya scored 66 runs in just 31 balls, Ishan scored 75 runs in 41 balls. They added 116 runs during the third wicket partnership, putting the five-time champions in command of the game.

Both were dismissed near the conclusion of the innings, leaving 32 runs to win in 23 balls. It was the duo of Tim David and Tilak Varma who did the job for MI. They continued from where Surya and Ishan left by scoring 19 and 26 runs, respectively. In the end, MI beat PBKS with six wickets and seven balls to spare. With this win, the Men in Blue moved to the 6th place in the points table.
