‘Purani CSK laut aayi’ – Fans react as Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs in IPL 2023

The 55th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosted the Delhi Capitals (DC). CSK enters the game having lost to the Punjab Kings (PBKS), whereas DC is riding high after defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) twice in a row.

The host team elected to bat after winning the toss. The CSK openers were plagued by Axar Patel’s spin, and both of them were dismissed for 49 runs in the seventh over, which made it difficult for them to get going. However, they recovered well to post a very competitive total of 167/8 in 20 overs. Six of the CSK batters contributed in the 20s in a valiant team batting effort to push the total beyond the 160-run mark. Shivam Dube with 25 off 12 remained their top-scorer.

For DC, Mitchell Marsh remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/18 in three overs. Axar Patel returned with 2-27 from his four while Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed had one scalp apiece in the game.

Matheesha Pathirana remained the star for CSK with a 3-wicket haul

In reply, DC started off shakily losing their skipper David Warner in the second ball of the innings without the scoring being opened. His opening partner Phil Salt returned to the pavilion in the third over while Mitchell Marsh followed in the fourth over due to a run-out following a big mix-up within the 22 yards. However, a 59-run partnership between Manish Pandey (27 off 29) and Rilee Rossouw (35 off 37) tried to start the run-flow at a lethargic pace.

Ultimately, Axar Patel led a charge with 21 off 12 but could not take the Capitals home and Chennai Super Kings won by 27 runs. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana returned with figures of 3/37. Deepak Chahar bagged two while Ravindra Jadeja had one scalp in the game.

Next, in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be hosting the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While KKR are on a two-match winning streak, RR have lost their previous three games. Going by current form, KKR will have their tails up. However, RR look the stronger team on paper in this intriguing match-up.
