Ravi Shastri gives ominous warning to Shubman Gill over his continued bad run of form

India’s young batter Shubman Gill is in the middle of a horrendous run with the bat in Test cricket. The move to the number three spot hasn’t worked out for the 24-year-old. On Friday, former India coach Ravi Shastri sounded a huge warning to the young batter.

During the second Test in Visakhapatnam, Shubman Gill was out for 34 runs off 46 balls. The young batter poked at an away-going ball to give James Anderson his 691st Test wicket. Pressure is mounting on Gill as he has failed to score a fifty in nearly ten Test innings.

It is expected that the Indian selectors will soon pick the team for the final three games. Virat Kohli is unlikely to play a part in the series as he is out of India. With Gill struggling for runs one veteran batter may be set for a return to the team.

Shubman Gill gets huge warning from Ravi Shastri

Visakhapatnam Test match got underway on Friday as former India coach Ravi Shastri warned Shubman Gill on air. According to the former India coach, Cheteshwar Pujara could be in line for a recall to the national side very soon.

24-year-old Shubman Gill has been in woeful form for India in the longest format of the game. “It’s a fresh side, a young side. These youngsters have to prove themselves. Don’t forget, Pujara is waiting. He is grinding it out at the Ranji Trophy and is always on the radar” remarked Ravi Shastri.

Cheteshwar Pujara has scored 535 runs during the ongoing Indian domestic season. The veteran batter began the season with an unbeaten 243 vs Jharkhand. This was followed by knocks of 49 and 43 vs Haryana, and 43 and 66 versus Vidarbha. In his last game against Services, Pujara scored 91 runs off 133 balls with 10 hits to the fence.

This season Pujara has already scored 535 runs with an average of 107. His strike rate of 58.92 is better than his career Test strike rate of 44.36. The mountain of runs in the domestic circuit will hold the veteran in good stead.

Towards the end of the year, India is set to tour Australia. The presence of Pujara will come in as a handy option for Rohit Sharma and India’s team management. Shubman Gill meanwhile knows time is running out but he has just one innings to turn it around.
