Ravi Shastri makes bold statement ahead of WTC final between India and Australia

Former India Head Coach Ravi Shastri believes that there are no particular favourites between India and Australia in the upcoming World Test Championship final. The former cricketer said that the fans are considering Australia as the favourites to clinch the title because the final is in England. However, he also warned Pat Cummins’ side as this will be a one-off Test and one bad day could cause them the Test mace.

Australia will be taking on India again in the year after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against them in March 2023. Now, the Aussies will be looking to settle scores with the Men in Blue after winning the most important Test match of the year against them. The WTC final will take place at the Oval, England from June 7 to June 11 with the 12th of June as a reserve day.

The rub of green hasn’t quite gone their way: Ravi Shastri

“You have to compete. Sometimes, you need a little bit of luck going your way as well. I won’t say we didn’t play good cricket. We have played very good cricket. The rub of green hasn’t quite gone their way. I always say this team is good enough to win an International trophy. When I was there, I used to say the same thing… especially in the last 3-4 years, I thought the team was good enough to win an International trophy. Those players are still there,” Shastri was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Everyone’s saying Australia are clear favourites because we are playing in England. But it’s a one-off Test, just one bad day can ruin your chances. Australia also needs to be very careful,” he further added.

The runners-up of the previous edition, India will be looking to clinch the Test mace in their second consecutive WTC Final and win their first international title after the Champions Trophy in 2013. Rohit Sharma and his team aim to end a ten-year wait with a win in WTC and continue their dominance over Australia in the longest over the past few years.
