‘RCB ke saamne yellow kapde mat pehna karo’ – Fans react as RCB women thump UP Warriorz by 23 runs in WPL 2024
RCB women beat UP Warriorz for the 2nd time in the ongoing WPL 2024. The home side overcame UP Warriorz women by 23 runs to clinch their 3rd win in the league. A collective team effort from RCB helped them to return to winning ways. After losing their last two games, the home side needed to make a statement. The cheers of fans helped them to up the game.
Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to field first. RCB women were brilliant with the bat. S Meghana scored 28(20) in the PP Overs and helped Smriti Mandhana. It was truly the night of the RCB skipper who shined with the bat. The star batter smashed the bowlers for fun and registered her best individual score in the WPL.
Her 80(50) was the highlight of the RCB’s innings. At the other end, Ellyse Perry had a good outing as well. The star batter registered her highest score of the season. With some mighty blows towards the end, Perry scored 57 runs. Richa Ghosh finished the innings well for RCB. Her 21(10) helped RCB women to post 198 runs on the board, which is now the highest team total in the WPL 2024.
RCB women contain UP Warriorz batters
Chasing the target, the opening duo of UP Warriorz provided the required intent at the top. Alyssa and Kiran Navgire smashed the bowlers for fun. The duo threatened to take the game away from the home side. Sophie Devine provided the much-needed breakthrough for the home side. Chamari Athapaththu could not make an impact with the bat. RCB’s spinners bowled well and contained UP Warriorz in the middle.
Sophie claimed two important wickets and helped her side in defending the total. Asha Sobhana and Sophie Molineux had a brilliant outing as the duo claimed 2/29 each in their four overs. Deepti Sharma and Khemnar tried their best to finish the game. Much like Healy, the Indian finishers could not help UP Warriorz to win the match. RCB women rejoiced the win, as they ended their home leg on a winning note.
